On her Impactful Legacy podcast, Mari-Lyn Harris kicks off the interview asking me how I got started with teamwork consulting. I share the story of how I went from leading electrons to people. That led to my fascination about improving team effectiveness which ultimately led me to develop the teamwork effectiveness tools and techniques I describe in Teamwork 9.0.
Grateful to Mari-Lyn Harris and Heart@Work (www.heartatworkonline.org) for the opportunity to share topics about Teamwork 9.0.

Mary— Question: Tell us a little bit about how you got started doing what you’re doing these days.
Matt—Answer: Thanks again for having me in the conversation today. My business is management consulting. I’ve come up with an innovative way to get teams to work together more effectively, and I just released a book on my methodology. It’s called Teamwork 9.0.
I started out as an engineer and did that for about 10 years. Then, after 10 years my manager came to me and said, “Matt, we want you to move into management.” And I’m, like, why do you want me to move into management, I don’t know anything about managing people, I only know about managing electrons? And they said, “Don’t worry you’ll be fine.” Well, that’s not the way I am, I’m not fine, I’m worried! So, I just started and went to “school,” read every book I could get my hands on and tried to learn as much as I could about how to get teams to work better together. As things evolved, I realized that being able to solve the challenges of getting teams to work together, those challenges, were equal to if not more important than the technical challenges that my team faced. And getting teams to work together effectively was very enlightening to me. So that’s how I got into this and grew my practice from there.
